Permits and county roads

Tavares is where Lake County's government sits, including the Public Works department that reviews driveway connections to county roads. The county's residential driveway form calls for 6-inch reinforced 3,000 PSI concrete on paved roads, a width of 10 to 24 feet at the property line, and an apron slope of no more than 14 percent. Inside city limits, the City of Tavares handles building permits. US 441 and State Road 19 run through the city, so some driveways connect to state roads and need their approval. Roads and reach

US 441 crosses the north side of Tavares, running about 6 miles east to Mount Dora and about 10 miles west to Leesburg. SR 19 joins it for part of the way, then runs about 5 miles northeast to Eustis and about 14 miles southwest to Florida's Turnpike near Groveland. The city is 32 miles northwest of Orlando and sits at about 118 feet of elevation.
